Congregational Partnerships

The Kalamazoo Deacons Conference (KDC) works in partnership with churches in a variety of ways. People in need, whether they attend a church or not, will approach a church to seek assistance – spiritually and financially. Very few congregations have staff trained to listen to people, verify their stories, assist and mentor them. KDC has a wide variety of tangible resources to offer to people in need.

Our Direct Response Servants (DRS) are trained to listen, encourage and offer hope. KDC staff networks with a variety of services available in the community. KDC welcomes the opportunity to partner with churches. Churches may refer someone in crisis to the Deacons Conference. KDC will be willing to share our findings and recommendations for assistance concerning cases that have been referred. KDC relies on church support and donations for all cases in which we assist.

There will always be poor people in the land. Therefore I command you to be openhanded toward your brothers and toward the poor and needy in your land. Deuteronomy 15:11

Relief. Release. Realization.

Relief in crises/emergencies, through the distribution of clothing, furniture, household goods, and financial assistance.

“. . . to proclaim good news to the poor.” Isaiah 61:1

Release to help people find freedom in Christ from bondage to
spiritual and material poverty and move toward greater self-sufficiency.

“. . . to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners . . . .” Isaiah 61:2

Realization for all people of their full potential as image bearers
of God, as the very ones destined to rebuild, restore and renew the core city of Kalamazoo.

“They will rebuild the ancient ruins and restore the places long devastated . . . .” Isaiah 61:3-4
