Clothing & Personal Needs
The Dorothy L. Hobbs Food Pantry, operated by Galilee Baptist Church, is located at the Kalamazoo Deacons Conference. Guests are served Mondays and Thursdays from 9 – 11 am.
KDC understands all too well that purchasing new clothes for a family can become expensive very quickly, and they do not get cheaper as a family grows. The Deacons Conference offers our guests the opportunity to receive free clothing items every six months in seasonal appointments (fall/winter and spring/summer). Whether you need a suit for an important job interview or your child needs a new outfit for the first day of school, the Deacons Conference provides our guests with the assistance they need.
Often, our guests have experienced a crisis that leaves them with very little, if anything at all. Perhaps they experienced an unfortunate accident that destroyed their home, leaving them with only the clothes on their back. Our organization offers this compassionate solution to our guests so that they at least have clean clothes to help them get by until their situation improves. Only through the generous donations of our community members are we able to share the love of Jesus Christ and provide our guest with this valuable service; the Deacons Conference is so grateful for this wonderful opportunity.
To receive clothing assistance, our guests meet with a Direct Response Servant (DRS) to assess their needs and schedule a clothing appointment. Ideally, clothing appointments are scheduled the same day the guest meets with the DRS, but we do not schedule these appointments on Fridays as our stores are being replenished. To be considered, you must bring identification and your child’s Social Security or Medicaid card when you meet with your DRS. Guests 18 years and older are considered adults and must, therefore, schedule their appointment with a DRS. Wives and husbands can “shop” for their spouse, but boyfriends and girlfriends must schedule separate clothing appointments.
The household department serves guests requesting personal hygiene items (shampoo, toothbrushes, soap, deodorant, diapers, etc.) and household items (dishes, pots & pans, sheets & blankets, detergent, silverware, etc.) Guests may request hygiene items every six months and household items every 12 months.
Guests meet with a Direct Response Servant (DRS) who will assess and fill the need. We assist our guests based on the availability of donations received. Guests are not charged for the items that they receive.
