The Kalamazoo Deacons Conference (KDC) lifts up our community by providing the “hand up” needed with job skills training that empowers individuals to provide and sustain life’s basic provisions for themselves and their families. The KDC STEP (Skills, Training, Empowerment and Purpose) Job Skills Training program is 13 weeks and provides an opportunity to those unemployed, underemployed and the never employed with skills and behaviors necessary for successful employment. The STEP program seeks to equip program participants with certification in retail, computers and custodial services for the purpose of obtaining employment and building a broad range of skills that will help them succeed both professionally and personally. STEP has four main objectives; they are to:
- Prepare individuals for work.
- Provide job seekers with necessary pre-employment skills.
- Empower individuals for success.
- Promote job retention and advancement.
STEP also benefits employers by preparing a highly-skilled local workforce. Help our community STEP in the right direction, out of poverty through job skills training and employment preparation.
